What This Tip Does
When your mind speeds up, your breathing speeds up with it. This tip interrupts that loop.
One slow, intentional breath signals to the nervous system that you are safe, helping your body drop tension and your mind find clarity.
How to Do It
- Inhale gently through the nose.
- Pause for just a moment — not forced, just natural.
- Exhale slowly through the mouth, a little longer than the inhale.
- Let your shoulders soften as the air leaves.
- Notice the shift — even if tiny.
Why It Works
A slower exhale activates the parasympathetic system — the “calm” switch.
It reduces micro-tension in the chest and resets the stress rhythm.
When to Use It
- When something suddenly stresses you.
- Before answering a message.
- When thoughts feel too fast.
- During overwhelm.
