TIP-027 – Release the Jaw

When the jaw tightens, the whole nervous system shifts into alert mode.
You may not notice it, but clenched teeth signal the body to stay on guard, breathe shallowly, and brace for impact.

This micro-reset works by doing the opposite:
You give the jaw permission to loosen — and the body follows.

How to Do It

  1. Let the lower jaw fall slightly away from the upper jaw.
  2. Keep the lips soft, not wide open — just unhook the tension.
  3. Notice the tongue dropping from the roof of the mouth.
  4. Breathe out slowly once.
  5. Stay here for 2–3 seconds and feel the shift.

Why It Works

Releasing the jaw activates a relaxation response through the trigeminal nerve, signaling your body to stand down.
It’s fast, discreet, and incredibly effective when stress builds without you noticing.

When to Use It

  • While working intensely
  • During emotional tension
  • When overthinking
  • Before sleep
  • When you notice headaches or face tightness

Q: What happens in your body the moment you unclench your jaw?
A: A small drop in tension, a fuller breath, or a feeling of softening.
